چکیده

The samples of human gastric juice were collected from patients of the University Hospital and the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The secretion of gastric juice was stimulated by injecting intravenously 10 units of insulin immediately before starting each collection. The gastric juice was collected in jars, cooled to 4”, and kept at this temperature. Samples from several patients were pooled, dialyzed against distilled water, and lyophilized in batches of about 250 ml. Hog pepsin, crystallized twice, was purchased from General Biochemicals, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. The crystalline rennin was from Nutritional Biochemicals Corporation, Cleveland, and the bovine hemoglobin substrate from Pentex, Kankakee, Illinois.

Purification and properties of a zymogen from human gastric mucosa.

A previous paper (2) described the isolation and crystallization of gastricsin from human gastric juice and the physical, chemical, and enzymatic properties of gastricsin as compared to human pepsin. It is the purpose of the present report to describe the purification and properties of a zymogen from human gastric mucosa. The activation of this zymogen produces both gastricsin and human pepsin.

Mechanism of activation of the gastric aspartic proteinases: pepsinogen, progastricsin and prochymosin.

The gastric aspartic proteinases (pepsin A, pepsin B, gastricsin and chymosin) are synthesized in the gastric mucosa as inactive precursors, known as zymogens. The gastric zymogens each contain a prosegment (i.e. additional residues at the N-terminus of the active enzyme) that serves to stabilize the inactive form and prevent entry of the substrate to the active site. Upon ingestion of food, ea...

The Isolation of an O Specific Substance from Gastric Juice of Secretors and Carbohydrate-like Substances from Gastric Juice of Non-secretors

1. The isolation of a group specific O substance from the gastric juice of human beings belonging to group O is described. Absorbed normal beef serum constitutes the anti-O reagent. 2. The O specific substance inhibits the agglutination of human red blood cells belonging to group O. The agglutination of A cells by the isoagglutinin anti-A, or B cells by the isoagglutinin anti-B, is not influenc...

Crystalline Pepsin v. Isolation of Crystalline Pepsin from Bovine Gastric Juice By

A crystalline protein having powerful proteolytic activity has been described in previous papers of this series (1). This protein was isolated from commercial pepsin preparations which, in turn, had been prepared from the gastric mucosa of swine, t The possibility exists that this protein was formed from some more complicated compound during the process of extraction and does not represent the ...

Influence of grapefruit-, orange- and apple-juice consumption on urinary variables and risk of crystallization.

Alkalizing beverages are highly effective in preventing the recurrence of calcium oxalate (Ox), uric acid and cystine lithiasis. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of grapefruit-juice and apple-juice consumption on the excretion of urinary variables and the risk of crystallization in comparison with orange juice. All investigations were carried out on nine healthy female...
